When Suzy met Gordon...

SISTech researcher Dr Suzy Goodsir was among the first people to meet Prime Minister Gordon Brown only hours after he returned to the UK from the Copenhagen Climate Change summit.

The Prime Minister had returned to his native Kirkcaldy to discuss local environmental initiatives and the outcome of the Copenhagen summit with representatives from  Greener Kirkcaldy, a scheme aimed at reducing the town’s carbon footprint.

Dr Goodsir, who also acts as Greener Kirkcaldy Chair, said after the meeting:
“It was great to get the opportunity to speak to the Prime Minister about our work. We already have a lot of local support and can see that there is a real readiness for people to change their behaviour for the good of the environment.”

As well as chairing Kirkcaldy’s own Climate Challenge Fund initiative, Goodsir works on a number of carbon reduction projects in her role at SISTech. These include a project called Kitchen Canny: working with ChangeWorks to reduce food waste in Lothian and Borders; and working with Historic Scotland to calculate the carbon embodied in stone in the UK.
