Heriot Watt University Travel Plan
Project Summary
The Travel Plan was developed to achieve Zero Additional Adverse
Transport Impact on the Campus. The Plan aims to provide a sustainable
transport solution to the site through introducing multi-modal transport,
car-sharing schemes, car park management and other modal-shift measures.
Based on first-hand survey data and GIS information analysis, a
modal-shift target group was identified and effective measures put
in place. Sophisticated modelling techniques (Paramics micro-simulation)
were used to test and support the Plan. Such modelling also enables
engineering studies to be carried out with a view to infrastructure
improvement.
The implementation of the Plan will enable the University to optimise
its timetables for all of its activities and to manage the traffic
flows in and around the campus.
