Sustainable Energy in Farming

Project Summary

SISTech worked with the Borders Machinery Ring to establish an auditing system to identify opportunities for incorporation of renewable energy systems into existing farms and rural communities. The study involved the provision of technical expertise to establish renewable energy projects that will support rural enterprise, involve local communities and promote rural economies whilst reducing the use of non-renewable energy resources. In order to assess the potential of farms, the project undertook pre-feasibility and feasibility surveys for farmers, and monitoring of wind and micro-hydro resources where potential has been identified. As part of the project objectives, the Borders Sustainable Energy Forum was established for the exchange of knowledge and experiences in the establishment of renewable systems. The forum provided a range of case studies to assist forum members.
