FACT and ACO Tools

1. Analysis of Commuting and Personal Journey Plans for workplaces

The Analysis of Commuter Options tool (ACO tool) can be used to help businesses develop better travel plans and provide personal commuting options to all workplace staff. The ACO tool can provide information regarding:

• Those groups of employees within walking or cycling distance, for whom a personal walking or cycling map may be useful
• Staff domicile areas where staff are more likely to consider a switch out of the car and onto public transport
• How many changes are required to make a commuting journey via public transport
• How the start time of a commuting journey would change if it was made via public transport instead of by car

This data can help inform Travel Plan development, and enables pragmatic targeting of resources.

2. Full Analysis of Car-based Travel (FACT) Tool

FACT is a simple tool developed by SISTech in consultation with a number of private and public employers. The tool has two aspects:

1. Parking Cost Model - Allows the user to select a location in Scotland (e.g. Central Glasgow, Suburban Dundee etc.), the number of spaces and a type of facility (surface, multi-storey or underground car park) and then calculates an annual cost per space.
2. Journey Cost Model - This model provides a costing per mile for business journeys that accounts for items including staff time, car maintenance and the often overlooked costs of accident risk factors.

The FACT Tool helps 'unwrap' such costs enabling employers to understand the holistic costs of their present car-based schemes and whether cost benefits might be gained from more balanced ways to meet commuter and transport needs. For more information please contact info@sistech.co.uk.
