Intermodal Transport for Waste and Recyclables in England and Wales

Project Summary

The main object of this research project was to demonstrate the environmental and economic benefits in England and Wales of a multi-modal mass balance approach to the transport of waste and recyclable materials. The project aimed to focus the attention of stakeholders (local authorities, commercial waste operators, industry, community groups, the public and others) on the potential for increasing the transport of wastes by water and rail and produce a strategic policy to maximise the use of integrated multi-modal transport options for waste and recyclables.
