Foresighting
SISTech continues to monitor the latest thinking in sustainable
development and how this is applied to practicable solutions. To
this end we have experience in assessing the skills and technologies
that organisations will need to be equipped with in order to best
deal with future conditions. While precise forecasting of future
technology and best practice is, by definition, impossible to achieve,
skilled analysis can provide evidence of the general situations
that will evolve in the medium to long term.
Example Projects
Engineering without Frontiers - EwF
examined how civil engineering should understand and respond to
society's expectations, sustainability and to the challenge of achieving
the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).
Inland Waterway Waste Transportation
Opportunities for Scotland - The aim of the project was to assess
whether water based waste transportation in Scotland was a sustainable
option to be promoted in the future.
Environmental Enhancement Action
Plan for the South East Wedge Development - A partnership to
ensure that the environmental potential of a new development is
maximised.
The Changing Role of Engineers in
Society - A study for the Institution of Structural Engineers
into how changing procurement processes, socio-demographics, sustainability
concerns and advances in technology would impact on the role of
the engineer in the next twenty years.
