Engineering Capability in Africa
Project Summary
This ongoing project has been developed by SISTech in cooperation with RAEng, ICE, the South African Institution of Civil Engineering (SAICE) and the African Engineers Forum (AEF) to help underpin engineering capacity building work in Africa. The project proposal is based on the research undertaken by SAICE known as the ‘Numbers and Needs’ project. The project objective is to establish the skills and professional gaps in the areas of construction, civil engineering and infrastructure – in terms of numbers, needs and institutional capacity – in Rwanda. The project activities will be a combination of desk-based research, communication with local engineering organisations, key contacts, government departments and NGO’s.
SISTech presented the results from this study at a UNESCO event 'Good Practice in International Development from an interdisciplinary perspective' on the 18th of March 2009.
