Climate Change Tools Database for Local Authorities

Project Summary

The aim of this project was to identify a comprehensive list of greenhouse gas emissions mitigation and climate change adaptation tools with a view to evaluating their strengths and limitations for Local Authorities. A selection of 19 tools were evaluated as part of the project, using information collated from individuals and organisations involved in developing and managing the tools, using an on-line questionnaire, telephone interviews and desk research. The tools were assessed against different criteria relevant to local authorities, and were scored against each of these.

The project team used this information to create a database of the different tools, which enables a user to input his/her context as a Local Authority, and produces the most relevant tool for that particular user. The database was created due to the range of climate change mitigation and adaptation tools that exist and the variability across Local Authorities in Scotland.

The online establishment of the database has subsequently been announced publicly by the Scottish Government as part of its commitment to Scotland Climate Change Declaration.
