Small Scale Production of Biodiesel from Used Cooking Oil: A Feasibility
Study
Project Summary
This project investigated the potential for small-scale production
of biodiesel from waste cooking oil in Scotland. The fuel produced
could be suitable for use in non-transport applications such as
diesel generators. Phase I of the project - an initial feasibility
report - quantified the amount of waste cooking oil produced in
Scotland, future regulatory drivers influencing disposal, the technical
aspects of conversion into a useable fuel, possible end markets,
environmental benefits and an overall economic appraisal. This report
was produced in conjunction with the Scottish Agricultural College.
A pilot project then analysed fuel samples to determine their quality
against a generator manufacturer's standard and considered the technical,
legislative and economic issues involved in their production and
use.
