About Us
The Scottish Institute of Sustainable Technology, known as "SISTech",
is a not-for-profit research institute established to promote and
foster best practice in sustainable development. SISTech was founded
in 1999 as a joint venture between Heriot Watt University and Scottish
Enterprise. In May 2007 MWH
UK Ltd purchased Scottish Enterprise's shareholding, becoming
joint owners, alongside the University.
Internationally there is a growing movement to find solutions for
economic development that simultaneously deliver environmental improvements
and societal benefits as well as financial returns for investors.
Delivering economic, environmental and social benefits from the
development process, both now and in the future, has come to be
known as "Sustainable Development" (SD).
Pursuit of this aspiration has generated a significant need for
research, policy development and practical application from businesses,
academic institutions and government bodies, locally and internationally.
SISTech was incorporated to respond to this emerging market.
SISTech's aim is to make a positive contribution to sustainable
development in all its work and our working practices and ideals ensure that we adhere to our core principles of independence, impartiality and thoroughness.
